About us

Two Margaret Moxons - Brisbane and Sydney - the families are not related.
Moxons Down Under, the Australian and New Zealand group within The Moxon Society has been looking after Australian and New Zealand members of the Society for over 10 years now, and is now being run from Sydney.

Margaret Moxon, wife of Simon Moxon of Brisbane was the first co-ordinator. They are members of the "Moxons of Hull" family.

However, earlier last year, Margaret asked for a volunteer to take over the work, and Margaret Tucker Moxon of Northmead, NSW, the wife of John Bruce Moxon volunteered.

John and Margaret are both passionate about family history, and have met various members of the Society both here and in the UK over the past four years.  John is a descendant of Joshua Middleton Moxon, a stonemason who arrived in NSW in 1867, and belongs to the "Silkstone Moxons".  He took the DNA test some time ago, and found that his DNA matches the paper trail.

As a tech-savvy baby boomer retiree, Sydney Margaret will aim to keep in touch as much as possible via email (unless members are accessible by snail mail only), social networking - Facebook and maybe Google + - via blog and website.  Margaret is also the Moxon Society's new webmaster, and at the request of the Society, has redesigned the website as a content management system using WordPress.

You can easily find the website on the main menu of Moxons Down Under.

The Society has a very reasonable subscription fee, and you can pay by cheque, PayPal or EFT.  The application forms are available at http://moxonsociety.org/wp/join-or-renew/

Margaret has established various Facebook groups and pages for members of the society - Moxon Society UK and International (group), Moxons Down Under (group), and for their own family and this is proving popular with second and third cousins.  Check the Facebook group and the Facebook page out by searching for Joshua Middleton Moxon family.

We'd love to hear from you if you are a Moxon descendant, a member of the Society or not.
